Time for a Transcultural, Transdisciplinary, Transformational Approach to End Obesity

Submit your late breaking abstracts now for presentation at the TORC biennial conference, “Time for a Transcultural, Transdisciplinary, Transformational Approach to End Obesity!” Join the excitement by submitting your abstract online before 3:00pm Central Time, October 1, 2012. Detailed instructions are available at the link below. Abstracts that are accepted for presentation will be published in a special issue of the International Journal of Exercise Science. Authors of selected abstracts may be invited to contribute a full length manuscript for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Exercise Science.

The TORC conference will be presented together with a meeting of the Multinational Collaboration to Increase Physical Activity in Hispanics (1R13CA162816), which includes investigators from Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The conference will feature four panel discussions centering on topics related to Feeding and Eating, Neighborhood and Context, Mexican-Americans, and Physical Activity, along with a special Director’s Reception and Poster Session, and Keynote Speaker Dr. Leonard Epstein, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Social and Preventive Medicine at the State University of New York, Buffalo. Conference registration includes two luncheons, a no-host hors d’eourves reception, and one breakfast along with free parking and many special conference surprises! The TORC promotes interdisciplinary research, education and training, and fosters local community collaborations to develop state-of-the-art obesity prevention and control methodologies via cross sectional and longitudinal research investigating psychosocial, environmental and biologic determinants of obesity and its consequences. The TORC conference will serve as a platform for exchange of obesity research from cell biology, energy regulation and clinical management to epidemiology, public health, and built environmental policy.
